My pool water is cloudy/smoky/hazy
There are a number of factors that could make your pool water cloudy. Some of the most common are:
-
Poor filtration/circulation. If this is the case, clean the skimmer and pump strainer baskets. Backwash and clean pool filter. You may need to use a chemical cleaner.
-
Improper balance. Test your pool water for pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness and adjust chemicals as necessary
-
Organic Waste. Shock your pool with one pound of supershock for ever 10,000 gallons of water.
-
High alkalinity. Simply add pH reducer.
-
Low sanitizer. Add additional chlorine to ensure sanitizer is within the correct range.
My pool water is green
Green water is caused by green algae growth. This is a very common problem and easy to correct if treated early. Simply shock your pool and then use algaecide to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
There’s yellow dust on the floor and walls of my pool
Mustard algae is another common pool problem that will leave a yellow (or sometimes green) layer of dust in your pool. As with green algae, simply shock your pool and then use an algaecide that is meant to get rid of mustard algae.
There are black spots on my pool
Black spots are an indication of black algae, which is unfortunately difficult to kill. It can easily grow in any cracks and crevices in your pool and is then nearly impossible to remove. To treat black algae, you’ll need an algaecide specifically for black algae. It can also be treated more quickly if you use a metal control product along with the algaecide.
