1. Check Your Cover
Pool covers are notorious for having damages that go unchecked. It’s easy to ignore these damages until it’s too late to get them fixed before you really need your cover. Make sure your pool cover is ready to go, and doesn’t have any leaks or tears that may compromise your pool.
2. Don’t Drain
It may be tempting to just drain your pool entirely in order to keep it safe. You should only really drain about two feet to allow for rainwater, but draining it entirely can get rid of weight that needs to be in your pool for its structural integrity. Without this weight, the sides can crack from high winds or debris.
3. Clear Your Deck
Pool toys? Outdoor furniture? Put them away if you want to protect your pool. Heavy objects can get pushed around easily by high winds, which might damage your pool. And pool toys can become dangerous projectiles if the conditions are right.
4. No Electricity
If you have electronic elements, like an electronic filter or heater, these need to be switched off during a hurricane. These are particularly susceptible to high winds and heavy rain, and should be taken care of accordingly.
