Pool Maintenance: Getting Your Pool Ready for Winter pt. 4
Cover your pool
It is important to invest in a pool cover that properly fits your pool. You must ensure that there are no gaps or cracks in the cover that might allow debris through. A mesh cover will tightly cover your pool and offers the best protection. You may also choose a floating solid cover but these do not fit as snugly so you may have to pump out rainwater and other debris periodically. Tightly secure the cover using water bags or aquablocks. If you do not have an adequate pool cover, you can use a pool loan from HFS Financial to purchase one that will suit your needs. If you have an in-ground pool, congratulations! Your pool is now all set for winter and will be in tip-top shape when it comes time to open back up next summer. However, if you have an above-ground pool then you’ll need to complete one more step.
Use air pillows for above-ground pools
If you have an above-ground pool then you’ll want to use air pillows to prevent ice from expanding. Simply inflate them using a shop vac or leaf blower, then tie them down in the middle of your pool. If you have a large pool it may require more than two pillows.
Once these steps are complete, your pool will be protected from damage over the winter. Be sure to follow these steps annually around this time of year to protect your investment and ensure you get to enjoy your pool for many years to come.
