You need to find a safe place to store your pool equipment during the fall and winter months. If you want to preserve the life of your equipment you need to keep it in a dry place. Many pool owners will put their skimmer baskets, cleaners, ladders, etc., in either their garage or shed.
Shock and Chlorinate
Shocking your pool water is a major step because it will kill the bacteria that exists in your pool. That way it does not linger throughout the winter months.
Lower The Water Levels
Take some time to lower the water levels in your pool. You do not have to drain your pool all the way; however, it should be significantly lower than where you had it during the summer months.
Drain All Pool Equipment
Once you drain out some of your pool water, you should spend some time draining your pool equipment as well. Water can be destructive to your pool equipment. You want to make sure everything is dry before you store it away.
