1. pH Products
If you remember from your high school chemistry classes, pH values determine whether a given liquid is an acid or a base. This value is very important in a swimming pool because it will not only determine how other pool maintenance products react to the water, it will also affect the comfort level of the people using the pool. You can use either pool testing strips or a digital tester to measure the pH value – 7.4 is the optimum number as it matches the pH value of human eyes – and use pH Plus or pH Min to adjust as needed.
2. Chlorine
The first thing to come to mind when most people think about swimming pools, chlorine products disinfect the water and keep it clean. There are a couple different forms of chlorine available, however, and it’s important to use each form appropriately. Tablets help your pool maintain optimal chlorine levels over a period of time. Chlorine granules are used as a shock treatment – most often used when starting a pool up or whenever the water seems to be turning green and needs to be stabilized.
3. Flocculants
Your pool filter system removes dirt particles that will naturally accumulate in your swimming pool. However, there will be very small particles that can pass through the system even if you have the best filter on the market. Flocculants remedy this problem by making small particles stick together to form larger ones. They do have one side effect – sometimes using flocculants can lead to a white foam accumulation at the bottom of the pool. However, vacuuming this foam will resolve this effect!
