The Differences Between A Hot Tub and A Spa
If you’re looking for a unique way to add a water feature to your home without the hassle of a full pool you may be considering a hot tub or home spa. While the terms for these units are often misused, each is very different. Depending on your usage needs and landscaping desires, it’s a good idea to know what each term means.
In-Ground Spa
An in-ground spa is similar to a hot tub however it usually is attached to a pool and is most common at a hotel or gym. They typically have only a few jets and include a long bench seat rather than lounging areas. An in-ground spa may also not be as deep as the usual hot tub. These also take a long time to heat up and require significant energy to maintain.
Hot Tub
When we refer to hot tubs, we are usually speaking of an above ground spa that is portable in nature. This system is a self-contained unit, where all the plumbing and electrical elements are contained within its body, usually in a built-in cabinet. It will be filled from a garden hose and can be drained and moved at any time. A hot tub can be set to and maintain a steady temperature, which makes it convenient for frequent use.
Jetted Bathtub or Jacuzzi
While the name Jacuzzi is often used for all three types of pool, the truth is that it is really the name of a brand rather than an item. The underwater jet was invented by the Jacuzzi Brothers, who have gone on to develop both jetted bathtubs and hot tubs. While the name works and most will understand your meaning, it’s important to remember that it is not the same thing.
