How to Keep Your Swimming Pool in Shape for Winter
Winter has finally arrived, and that means it’s time to get your pool in good shape for next year. You might not think that your pool needs that much maintenance in the chilly winter months, but you’d be surprised how much damage your pool could take if it’s not winterized correctly. You must be going through your winter maintenance routines to make sure that you are protecting your pool the right way in the off-months. Here are a handful of helpful pool tips to make sure everything goes as planned.
Start Winterizing Your Swimming Pool Early
One smart pool tip to consider is starting a bit early on your winterizing process. You should start about a week before you consider closing up your pool for the winter. Drop a phosphate remover in to stop any algae buildup.
Monitor Your Pool’s Water Level
Prepare your swimming pool for the kind of winter that your area normally expects. Since we’re on the east coast, expect a few inches of snow to land. If there are freezing climates, you should have the waterline at about four-to-sex inches below the tile line for a plaster-lined pool or right below the skimmer for a vinyl pool. In any non-freezing regions, fill up the water almost to the top.
Balance Out Your Pool Chemistry
Take this pool tip very seriously. You should do this right before you close up your pool for the season, but monitoring it will be very crucial as well. Measure your water balance by using a kit. Be sure to find the sweet spot for your swimming pool to make sure it’s chemistry is just right for the brutal cold.
Install a Pool Cover
Make sure to install a pool cover once everything inside your pool is good to go. Make sure it fits well and is appropriately attached, though. If you’ve got an in-ground pool, be sure your cover is held in place properly.
