What Needs to Be Done Before Pool Installation?
Choosing to add a pool to your property is a big investment, but pools return that investment in a load of benefits: health and fitness benefits, mental and emotional benefits, even the financial benefits of improved property value. Before you “dive in” to pool installation, however, there are some things you need to do first.
Check The Rules
Different areas have different rules and regulations surrounding pools. Some don’t allow pools at all, while others require that your whole plan get approval before construction can begin, and still, others have no rules at all. In addition to the local government rules, you may be subject to homeowners association rules and even building codes. Make sure to do all of your research before you start so that you don’t get hit with unexpected costs, fees or fines, or even have your project unexpectedly canceled.
Research Contractors
After you finish researching the regulations for your area, put those research skills to even more use and look into the various pool contractors in your area. Start by looking at their online reviews and calling their references. Visit their offices and meet with them face-to-face before settling on them. You should also visit any of their previous projects if you can, and you should verify their insurance and licensing information. Finally, make sure that they work on the type and style of pool that you’re interested in, for instance, in-ground or aboveground, plaster or vinyl, and salt or chlorinated water.
Get Multiple Bids
Once you’ve narrowed to your top choices, get a bid from each one. Make sure that you are asking for the same project specifications for each bid, and don’t make the decision based only on price. You want quality workmanship, not just to be under budget. Often, the middle range of bids will offer the best balance of price and quality.
